Freitag wins as Kofler flops in Harrachov

Germany's Richard Freitag edged Austria's Thomas Morgenstern to take gold in the men's large hill ski jumping World Cup event in Harrachov, Czech Republic.

The 20-year-old’s previous best finish had been a silver in the second round in Norway but that all changed as the German demonstrated his large hill expertise.
Freitag produced the best first and second jumps to claim a comfortable victory, amassing 292.4 points, nearly ten ahead of his nearest challenger, Austrian Thomas Morgenstern.
This victory for Freitag means he moves onto 294 points as he closes the gap on overall World Cup leader Andreas Kofler, who could only manage fifth in the Czech Republic to increase his total to 358.
Sandwiched between the two is Austria’s Gregor Schlierenzauer, who moved onto 302 points with eighth in Harrachov.
Completing the podium in the Czech Republic was Germany’s Severin Freund who picked up bronze, his second top-three finish of the season.
